Alumni Spotlight: Avinash Mohan, MD

Meet Dr. Avinash L. Mohan, a leader in the field of Pediatric Neurosurgery

Avinash Mohan, MD, Co-Chief, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, received his undergraduate degree with honors from The Johns Hopkins University and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Mohan completed his internship and residency in Neurosurgery at Westchester Medical Center, during which time he served for one year as a Research Fellow at the Skirball Research Institute, New York University School of Medicine. He then did his fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and Chicago, IL. He is one of approximately 200 fellowship trained pediatric neurosurgeons in the country.

Dr. Mohan has co-authored numerous academic publications, making a significant contribution to medical literature. Dr. Mohan says his research is a vital part of his clinical care. “If you want to be a good doctor for kids, then you have to be involved in the research world,” said Dr. Mohan.

A resident of Yorktown Heights, Dr. Mohan enjoys working at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center where he specializes in treating very complex problems of the brain and spine “It has been a pleasure to work in the place that I trained,” he notes.
