Dr. Karen Hussein is a neonatologist at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. She completed medical school and a health policy track at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She then continued her training with a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Florida/UFHealth Shands Children's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Finally, she finished her training with a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Rutgers University/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School where she was chief fellow. 

Her research included the isolation and characterization of amniotic fluid stem cells, the induction of human neurons from amniotic fluid stem cells, and a quality improvement project optimizing growth and nutrition in the preterm infant.  In addition to stem cell research, she also has research interest in brain injury.  She has previously served as a District Fellow Representative for the Trainees and Early Career Neonatologist group of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine where she contributed to their advocacy campaign Navigating NAS. She will continue basic science and clinical research in addition to serving as an attending in the NICU.
