VALHALLA, N.Y. (April 3, 2018) – Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has named 11-year-old Emilié Saltzman as the 2019 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Hudson Valley Champion.

After being thrown from her horse during a lesson in 2015 and suffering severe brain injuries, Emilié has shown determination in her journey back to recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury. After spending a week on life support, and four months in rehabilitation learning to walk, talk and eat again, Emilié can now do the things she enjoyed before the accident like walking, running, skipping, singing her favorite songs, and eating her favorite food, sushi.

In honor of her bravery, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, the region's only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and a Children's Miracle Network Hospital, designated Emilié as a Champion in a ceremony attended by her family and members of her care team at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.

As a Champion, Emilié will serve as an ambassador for Maria Fareri Children's Hospital and represent thousands of other children cared for at the hospital at events throughout the Hudson Valley.
