PHILADELPHIA, PA., Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023 - Children’s Brain Tumor Network (CBTN) welcomes Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) as a new member institution. CBTN membership now includes 34 leading institutions located across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States.

Dr. Jared Pisapia will serve as CBTN principal investigator for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. Dr. Pisapia is also a member of the CBTN Scientific Committee.

“We’re excited to officially join the CBTN community and strengthen our partnerships with CBTN member sites around the world. The expertise and resources available through the CBTN will help expand our own clinical and research efforts to improve the quality of care for every one of our brain tumor patients and their families,” said Jared Pisapia, MD, MTR, attending pediatric neurosurgeon at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital

Located in Valhalla, NY, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is a 136-bed advanced pediatric center that includes specialties in neurology, neurosurgery and other neurosciences, in addition to hematology and oncology care. Maria Fareri Children's Hospital is an academic partner of New York Medical College.

As a participating CBTN member site, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital contributes consented samples of childhood tissue to help advance understanding of childhood brain tumor biology. Each brain tumor tissue sample is deidentified before undergoing genetic sequencing, a process that converts the samples into data to provide the greatest value to researchers worldwide, while protecting the privacy of each child. No single institution can collect enough samples on their own, making collaboration through CBTN an essential step towards more effective treatments for children.

“Collaboration across health institutions is critical to accelerate cures for children and young adults diagnosed with a brain tumor. We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Pisapia and the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital community as a new CBTN member institution”, said Phillip “Jay” Storm, MD, CBTN Cofounder and Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
